Pawpaw (Asimina triloba) is a small, native understory tree prized for its lush, tropical-looking foliage and unique, edible fruit. In late summer, it produces large green fruits with a creamy, custard-like flavor often compared to banana and mango. Pawpaw thrives in part shade to sun, is hardy and low-maintenance once established, and supports wildlife as a host plant for the zebra swallowtail butterfly. Plant two genetically different trees for best fruit production.
